New AI Platform To Regulate eScooters, Bicycles In Dubai.

AI Platform Launch

The launch of a new AI technology platform to monitor e-scooters, bicycles, and other forms of soft mobility operations has been announced by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The platform was developed in collaboration with service providers and stakeholders.

The newly launched platform has the primary goal of promoting sustainable mobility through the use of artificial intelligence, in line with Dubai’s vision to become one of the world’s smartest cities.

According to Hussain Al Banna, the CEO of Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector at RTA, this platform is a vital initiative under the RTA’s Enterprise Command and Control Centre (EC3), with the aim of improving service quality and ensuring smooth, safe, and secure mobility for users.

It also helps to facilitate the integration of multiple mobility options and supports the preparation of technical studies. In the end, the platform aims to provide a seamless and integrated travel experience for public transport riders while ensuring the safety and security of all road users in Dubai.

The newly launched soft mobility integrated platform integrates the systems of various service providers with the EC3. In its initial phase, the platform linked five soft mobility service providers, including four shared e-scooter operators and one shared e-bike operator. This will help RTA’s new AI Platform to monitor e-scooters.

These providers operate over 2,500 e-scooters in 21 regions, with 11 new areas added in the first quarter of 2023. In 2022 alone, shared e-scooters made more than one million trips. Additionally, the platform also oversees 1,750 shared bikes in 28 areas across Dubai, which recorded over 1.3 million trips in the same year, as stated by the CEO of Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector at RTA.

Traffic & Safety

Furthermore, the platform ensures traffic safety on all pedestrian and bike crossing lanes by verifying compliance with geographical zones. It also monitors speed limits and sends alerts for any violations, thereby enhancing overall safety on the roads.
