Killer Whales Spotted!
During a recent fishing expedition, a group of anglers in Abu Dhabi spotted Killer Whale Near Abu Dhabi coast. According to a statement posted on its social media accounts, the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD) reported the rare sighting of a pair of killer whales, also known as orcas, in the waters near Abu Dhabi. These highly adaptable marine mammals are known to thrive in both warm and cool waters and have been observed frequently in Abu Dhabi’s waters. This occurrence is a testament to the thriving marine ecosystem that exists in the area.Safety Warning.
While orcas are generally not considered a danger to humans, the authority stressed the importance of maintaining a safe distance when encountering any wildlife and to report any unusual sightings to the Abu Dhabi Government Call Centre at 800 555.Who Spotted Killer Whale Near Abu Dhabi?
According to Ahmed Afifi, the managing director and co-founder of the angling group “Just Fishing,” the group spotted the orcas near the Abu Dhabi shore on Tuesday morning. While pursuing kingfish, the anglers noticed a lack of activity in the water, which was followed by an orca leaping out of the water with something in its mouth. Upon closer observation, the group saw that the orcas were surrounding a dugong, which was an incredibly rare and extraordinary sight. The anglers, who aim to promote Abu Dhabi as a sports fishing destination, were able to view the orcas for about an hour and shared videos of the encounter on their social media platforms. Although orcas are also known as killer whales, they are highly intelligent and recognizable due to their distinct black-and-white coloring. The last reported sighting of orcas in UAE waters occurred in December 2021 in Abu Dhabi, with a prior sighting taking place off the coast of Dubai in 2019.Precaution.
Environmentalists and fishermen have also reported sighting other marine creatures that are rare along the UAE coastline, including whale sharks. The EAD constantly urges residents to report unusual wildlife sightings, and to help preserve animal life in the UAE.
